Welcome to Grandpas UnitedTM! We are glad you are interested in finding out more about us.

You probably guessed we are a group of old guys from our name. As “Grandpas,” we’ve seen a thing or two! Some of us have grandchildren who live nearby, some of us have grandchildren who live far away (so we don’t see them as often as we’d like), and some of us have grandnieces, grandnephews, and young friends instead of grandchildren. Some of us are pretty old; others are not as old as our “Grandpas” title would indicate.

We’ve noticed that some of the young people in our community don’t get to see their grandparents or older friends very often, either.

Grandpas UnitedTM is here to fill the gap. Our role is to provide mentoring, camaraderie, and joy to our community’s youngest generation, whose older friends and family members are not around.

We are in tough times — and we Grandpas have seen tough times. Even in good times, being a kid can be tough. Tough times are tough on everyone; we can help by sharing our experience and maturity with young people.

We have a range of programs and initiatives. It may be as simple as showing how to shake hands, playing games with elementary students, or helping an Eagle Scout earn his last badges. We take mentoring seriously, and we are there helping in the Youth Court when a young person has made a mistake. All mistakes don’t have to be disasters! With the right person by your side, a mistake can be a lesson, not a sentence.

It would be inaccurate to say that all our activities are focused on the kids, but many are inspired by children! We invite people who know more than we do to educate us about social media, digital gaming, and more. Playing pickleball — which seems to be the latest craze — is a skill we’ve been honing. We have get togethers for coffee, and we've been known to make good breakfasts.

So, if you have some time and if any of these activities sound interesting, come and join one of our Zoom meetings. That's the fastest way to see who we are and what we're up to.

Give us a try. We welcome your involvement. See you there and then!
