The Personnel Department has the responsibility of assisting the Village Manager, and Department Heads in achieving and maintaining the approved levels of staffing with the most qualified employees.
Personnel handles the administration of employee benefits, and answers employee inquiries regarding benefits, work rules, and any concerns that arise with respect to employment with the Village. In addition, this department is responsible for insuring compliance with New York State and Westchester County Civil Service Rules for selection, retention, classification, and all aspects affecting employment. Per The Westchester County Department of Human Resources “individuals seeking employment in the competitive class of civil service must compete in an examination process for selection by merit and fitness. Examinations may be specifically scheduled (periodic) and open to the public (open competitive), or open to current permanent employees only (promotional), or they may be held as continuous recruitment examinations”.
The health and safety of Village employees is a top priority, and the Personnel Department oversees compliance with OSHA regulations, Federal and State Labor Laws, as well as Federal DOT licensing regulations, including mandatory random drug/alcohol testing.
