Town of Ossining Unveiling “Luiz Carlos da Costa  Way”

Luiz Carlos da Costa, an Ossining resident who was killed in the Haiti earthquake of 2010 will be recognized on Saturday May 12 at 10:00 a.m. with an honorary street naming.  Quail Hollow Road will be dedicated as Luiz Carlos da Costa Way, the ceremony will take place at the corner of Quail Hollow Road and Pheasant Ridge Road (inside Country Meadows.)
 
Mr. da Costa served as the Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.  He was the highest ranking Brazilian in the United Nations.   After da Costa's death, he was described by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as "a legend of UN peacekeeping operations" and "a mentor to generations of UN staff" due to his nationality and prominence in the UN hierarchy.  The Town of Ossining is dedicating Quail Hollow Road (the street which he lived) to recognize and honor Mr. da Costa’s contribution to our community and our world.  There will be a brief ceremony with representatives of the da Costa family, representatives of the United Nations and Town and Village Official.   All are welcome to attend.
