Ossining Matters 5K Trail Race and 2 Mile Walk to benefit Ossining MATTERS Education Foundation will be held on Saturday, September 8th. The race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at the Double Arch at the Old Croton Aqueduct adjacent to the Caputo Community Center 95 Broadway, registration on-line and by mail, race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m.at the Caputo Community Center, for further information visit the website.
There will be an informational meeting on Community Land Trusts for Housing, Saturday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center, 95 Broadway. All residents are invited to attend.
Special Benefit Concert to be held on September 8th, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. in the theater at Ossining Public Library. Seniors Oliva Oppedisano and members of High Voltage: Max Gulian, Lee Saper, Jesse McCormick, Scott Peller and Jake Schofield, will perform at a gala fund-raising event to raise money for the scholarship fund in the name of Noah Woodley -Aitchison. This scholarship is awarded to OHS seniors at the end of their senior year. This concert will raise money for the fund and help those awarded with their educational expenses. Singer/songwriter Fred Gillen, Jr. will be master of ceremonies for this special Saturday afternoon concert.
On September 8th there will be an Interfaith Walk on the way to Ground Zero passing through Ossining. The walk began on August 29th at the Grafton Peace Pagoda, Petersburgh, New York and will end at Ground Zero on September 11th. St. Paul’s on-the-Hill, 40 Ganung Drive will be holding a pot luck supper, discussion and service at 6:00 p.m. in connection with this event. For additional information call St. Paul’s at 941-6627.
The Ossining High School class of 1952 in conjunction with the Ossining Public Library has invited Douglas Parker, a 1952 alum to speak at the library on Saturday, September 15th @ 2:00 p.m. about his biography on Ogden Nash titled: "Ogden Nash: The Life and Work of America's Laureate of Light Verse." Doug's talk will describe his experience in writing the book, published in 2005, recount some of the highlights of Nash's life including stints as a Hollywood screenwriter, lyricist on and off Broadway and performer on radio and TV, and he will read excerpts from some of Nash's most provocative and entertaining verse. The talk will take place in the theater on the lower level.
2007 Ferry-Go-Round – Sunday, September 16th 11am to 6pm The fourth "Hudson Ferry-Go-Round" returns to the region linking towns along the Hudson River with continuous ferries. NY Waterway ferries travel between Peekskill, Haverstraw, Ossining and Tarrytown. The public can board on a first-come, first-served basis, approximately every 40 to 60 minutes. FREE transportation will connect Ferry landings with events in the participating communities. Ferry-Go-Round All-Day Passes are: $10 adults, $5 seniors and free for kids 17 and under with a ticketed adult. For additional information visit the website.
Call for Artists: The Ossining’s Treasures an Arts Festival is scheduled for Sunday, September 16. Display space for artists is available at a minimum charge and food vendors are welcome. Maryknoll Film Festival Friday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m A new international film festival, sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, will open on Friday Sept. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining. The series of nine monthly offerings entitled, Life through Death: God’s Self-sacrificing Love Revealed in Relationships, will open with “Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles”, China/Japan 2005, from director Zhang Yimou. Each film will be introduced by a Maryknoll missioner who will facilitate a brief discussion following the screening. All are welcome. Admission is free. Films will be shown in the Maryknoll Society Center Building, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining. Maryknoll, the U.S.-based Catholic missionary movement, includes the Maryknoll Society (Fathers and Brothers), the Maryknoll Congregation (Sisters), the Maryknoll Lay Missioners, and the Maryknoll Affiliates. Come join the fun! The Christopher Columbus Lodge #692, a not-for-profit organization in Ossining is hosting the 5th Annual Columbus Day Festival in celebration of Italian Heritage and Culture Month. The festival will be held at Veterans Park, Narragansett Avenue on Friday, October 5th from 5pm – 11pm, Saturday, October 6th from 4pm– 11pm, and Sunday, October 7th from 2pm – 10 pm. There will be food, raffles, rides, games and free live entertainment. The Camille Antoinette Budarz Performance Space at the Ossining Public Library will be dedicated Sunday, October 7th at 3 p.m. a special concert by pianist, Michael Boriskin, artistic director of the Copland House will follow the dedication. Admission is free.
The Annual Ossining Public Library Fall Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, October 12 from 10-5, Saturday, October 13 from 10 - 5, Sunday, Oct. 14 from 12-5 and Monday, October 15 from 10a.m - 8 p.m.
Special program: "Hudson Valley Ruins" will be presented at the library by the Ossining Historical Society Museum and OPL on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m.Guest speaker: Rob Yasinsac, co-author of the book: Hudson Valley Ruins: Forgotten Landmarks of an American Landscape."
