Middle Class STAR Rebate: Taxpayers already receiving the "Basic STAR" exemption may be eligible for the new "Middle Class STAR" rebate. Westchester homeowners can receive rebates of up to $1200.97 if qualified. Applications must be submitted to the NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance. Enhanced STAR (qualifying senior citizens) will automatically receive a check from Department of Taxation and Finance by September 5th, 2007. Basic STAR recipients will receive an application by mail by September 17th.

 You’re Invited to Celebrate Grand Opening of New Building at Phelps Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 1-4 pm, the public is invited to celebrate the official opening of the new 100,000 square-foot Medical Services Building at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center in Sleepy Hollow. Speeches and a ribbon cutting ceremony begin at 1:30 pm, followed by tours of the $10 million building in which several of the hospital’s busiest services will be located. Of special interest are the Frank and Lisina Hoch Center for Emergency Education, which will better train EMT’s, and the Outpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department with its new aquatherapy pool. The opening event includes fire engines and ambulances that young visitors can explore, plus light refreshments for all. Residents of the entire area served by Phelps, as well as emergency medical personnel from the surrounding region are encouraged to come see how Phelps is growing to better serve the community. A further cause for celebration is the opening of a new 750-space parking garage where patients and visitors can park for free! For more information, go to the website.

The Ossining Boat and Canoe Club Fall Harvest Breakfast will be held onSunday, October 7th from 8 a.m. – 12 noon. This is a fundraiser for the Boat and Canoe Club, Donation is $10/ea for adults, $5.00/ea. for children (12 & under) A great way to start your day, all are welcome to attend. 
 
Come join the fun! The Christopher Columbus Lodge #692, a not-for-profit organization in Ossining is hosting the 5th Annual Columbus Day Festivalin celebration of Italian Heritage and Culture Month.  The festival will be held at Veterans Park, Narragansett Avenue on Friday, October 5th from 5pm – 11pm, Saturday, October 6th from 4pm– 11pm, and Sunday, October 7th from 2pm – 10 pm. There will be food, raffles, rides, games and free live entertainment. The Annual Ossining Public Library Fall Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, October 12 from 10-5, Saturday, October 13 from 10 - 5, Sunday, Oct. 14 from 12-5 and Monday, October 15 from 10a.m - 8 p.m.  Bag sale on Oct.16 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sale on Lower Level during Library hours.
Special program: "Hudson Valley Ruins" will be presented at the library by the Ossining Historical Society Museum and OPL on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker: Rob Yasinsac, co-author of the book: Hudson Valley Ruins: Forgotten Landmarks of an American Landscape." Mr. Yasinsac is on the staff of Historic Hudson Valley. Admission is free.

Fall Family Fun Day 2007 will be held at Market Square at the intersection of Main and Spring Street from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, October 13.  Join us for a great day of fun activities including hay rides, face painting, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting contest, festive music and a pie eating contest. All are welcome and admission is free.
Do you have clothing that your children no longer wear that would fit 5-7 year-olds? The Ossining Early Childhood PTA (the PTA that serves Roosevelt and Park Schools) is holding a Clothing Drive for the Park School Nurse, who has run out of spare pants for the children who have accidents during school.  Before you donate to the clothing bins, please look to see if you have pants that would fit a 5-7 yr old.  If so, drop them off to Park School labeled Nurse’s Office.

Noted Peace Activist, Father John Dear, to Speak at Maryknoll Father John Dear, S.J., a Jesuit priest, peace activist, popular lecturer and author, will speak at the Maryknoll Society Center, 55 Ryder Road in Ossining at 7:00 pm. on October 17, 2007, as part of the Maryknoll Speaker Series. For directions call 914-941-7636 ext. 2294. His lecture is entitled “The Beatitudes of Peace.” Father Dear, a longtime practitioner and teacher of nonviolence, has worked for over 25 years with such groups as the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Pax Christi. He has been arrested more than 75 times for acts of non-violent civil disobedience for peace. His work for peace has taken him to war zones throughout the world including El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, the Middle East, the Philippines, Northern Ireland and Iraq. Dear has authored hundreds of articles and over 25 books on peace and justice. These include Mohandas Gandhi and You Will be My Witnesses (Orbis Books), and his newest book, Transfiguration, (Doubleday).  The Maryknoll Speakers Series offers timely and stimulating talks and discussions on matters of faith and social concern. Sample the Ports of Portugal A fund raiser for the maintenance of Ossining Sailing Club boats, sponsored by Doca’s Restaurant. The event will be held Friday, October 19th from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club on the waterfront in Ossining (across from the train station). Donation is $20 per person and you must be 21 or over to attend. 
 
The Ossining Farmers Market is open The market runs each Saturday through December 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at Market Square corner of Main and Spring St. Come to the market to buy farm fresh foods from the Hudson Valley. Shop for vegetables, fruit, organic produce, pasture raised meats, and specialty foods.  The market is sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce. For further information go to the website. Please note: Shoppers do not park behind the Chase Bank next to the market.
