Draft Comprehensive Plan & Proposed Zoning Code Now Available On-Line

Public Meetings Scheduled

The draft Comprehensive Plan and proposed zoning code changes have been developed and are available on line.  Scroll down about half a page and Click on Comprehensive Plan to review the Draft Plan and Proposed Zoning Code.   This is a culmination of two years of hard work, which includes responses from a Village-wide survey, five public meetings, five focus group sessions, and input from the Comprehensive Plan Committee, Zoning Sub-Committee, and the Village’s consultants.  A second Public Meeting is scheduled for December 3, 2007 at the Ossining Public Library at 7:30p.m. - 9:30 pm.  COME to the PUBLIC PRESENTATION to hear an overview of the draft Plan and the proposed Zoning Code changes.    We need you to participate.  Be a Part of Ossining’s Future!  For more information please contact the Village of Ossining Department of Planning at 762-6232 or email.
 

Tree Lighting Ceremony Join us for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting December 3rd at Market Square, corner of Main and Spring Street.  Youth choirs will begin caroling at 5:30 p.m.  Santa will arrive shortly after at approximately 6:15 to greet children and adults as well.  Free cider, cookies and donuts will be available.

Maryknoll Magazine, celebrating 100 years of publication, and the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, winding up a year of commemorative events, present a drama honoring four U.S. churchwomen martyrs on December 2nd at 1:30 p.m. with a presentation of the liturgical drama “Certain Women” at the Maryknoll Sisters Center, 10 Pinesbridge Road, Ossining.  The play is based on the lives and deaths of the four U.S. churchwomen who were martyred in El Salvador 27 years ago.  On December 2, 1980, Maryknoll Sisters Maura Clarke and Ita Ford, Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel and lay missioner Jean Donovan were raped, murdered and buried in a shallow grave in El Salvador.  All had devoted their lives in service to the poor and oppressed in that country during the brutal civil war that claimed the lives of more than 75,000 Salvadorans at the hands of their own government.  The play which incorporates dialogue, music and audience participation was written by Gloria Ulterino and Marilyn Catherine.  It will be performed by “Women of the Well”, a six-member troupe from Rochester, N.Y.  For more information call 914-941-7636 x 2318. Christmas Concert at Maryknoll, Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, 8 p.m.  The Maryknoll choir, composed of Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, lay missioners, affiliates and employees, will usher in the Christmas season with their annual Christmas at Maryknoll concert, Friday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Chapel, Maryknoll Society Center, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining.  In addition to the prepared program, the more than 40 choir members and musicians will invite the audience to join them in singing traditional hymns and songs of the Christmas season under the direction of Lucille Naughton, music coordinator at Maryknoll.  All are welcome.  Admission is free.  For additional information call 914-941-7590.  For more information on Maryknoll, consult the World Wide Web.

OPL Events…

-Great Music returns to the library on Sunday, December 9th at 3:00 p.m. The classical guitar duo of LaVitaWilliams will perform works by de Falla, Albeniz, Piazzolla, Ginastera. Join us as we welcome these rising stars of the New York classical guitar scene. Concert is admission free and will be in the theater.

-Friday, December 14th the library will host its Friday Forum featuring Holiday Words & Music with special guest singer/pianist, Carolyn Black. Come to the library for holiday cheer and good fellowship. Take a break from the hectic holiday schedule. Bring a brown bag lunch, dessert and beverage will be provided. Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Forum to take place in the theater.

-Local artist and long time resident Edward Malsberg exhibit, a family affair, includes works by his son and grandson will be on view until December 21.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center Healthy Life Program Series Continues In  December The public is invited to attend programs on a broad range of health-related subjects, such as caregiving, defensive driving, and relaxation, which are relevant to many people. The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for November and December follows:

·        Monday, December 17, 7 to 9 p.m.: Mental Imagery Methods for Relaxation and Holistic Healing. This program explores how mental imagery can affect the body, mind, and spirit. Registrants will learn how meditative relaxation can help them experience holistic healing. Presented by Loyola Amalraj, PhD, author and educator. Phelps Memorial Hospital Center is a 235-bed community hospital with 450 medical staff, representing 34 clinical specialties. Phelps is the exclusive Westchester satellite for Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, a clinical affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital, and a member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System.  

 

OHS Class of 1958 will hold it's 50th Reunion the weekend of October 17, 18 and 19, 2008.  The reunion dinner will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the Traveler's Rest, Rt. 100, Ossining, beginning at 6 pm.  The committee, headed by Charlie DiGiacomo, would like to contact all class members to RSVP and also to invite them to offer ideas and suggestions to make this a memorable event.
