We’re Wireless…Did you know that the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center is a wireless hotspot? So while your children are swimming in the pool you can surf the web. Come down to the Community Center at 95 Broadway and log on to the “Ossining” Wireless Network for free – no password required. Check your email or catch up on some work while your children play. 

 

Indian Brook Water Treatment Plant Tours The Village offers tours of our state of the art water filtration and treatment facility. If you are interested in requesting a group tour, please contact Mr. Andrew Tiess at 941-4660 or Mr. Steven Ho at 941-0128. Please note all age groups are eligible, however, grade school age children must have one chaperon for every 6 children.  The tours are approximately 45 minutes long and are offered at the discretion of the Water Superintendent.  Call at least one month in advance to schedule a tour. 

 

The Costume Parade beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 27^th at has moved to the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center. There will be a pie eating contest, trophies for the most interesting costumes, a magic show, free cider and doughnuts and medals for all who attend; special awards will be given to the three best adult costumes and the ten best children’s costumes.

The Recreation Advisory Board of Ossining would like to invite all Village and Town residents to the dedication of a plaque for Brian E. Fee, long time chair of the Recreation Advisory Board.  Brian was a dedicated volunteer for over 30 years in Ossining. He coached for many years in a variety of sports, was committed to advancing youth recreation in Ossining and loved the parks. As chair of the RAB he ran meetings that were efficacious and yet did so with a wonderful sense of humor. On Saturday, October 27^th, at 1:30 pm, members of the Recreation Advisory Board will be holding a ceremony in Richard Wishnie Park to dedicate a plaque in his memory. The site will be on the edge of the reservoir opposite Pleasantville Road facing the fountain.  We hope you can attend this event and look forward to this long awaited day. Many will remember Brian as a man of few words, a great sense of humor and a most generous heart.

The Ossining Recreation and Police invite you to celebrate Halloween the safe way! Join us for the Halloween D.A.R.E. Program on Wednesday, October 31^st from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center, 95 Broadway.  Wear your costume, play games, win prizes and candy, be on TV with Officer John, have a great time with all your friends and its all for free. This program is for ages 1 – 10 and parents/adults are welcome.

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center Healthy Life Program Series Continues In November and December The public is invited to attend programs on a broad range of health-related subjects, such as caregiving, defensive driving, and relaxation, which are relevant to many people. The Phelps Healthy Life Calendar for November and December follows:

·         Monday, November 5 and Tuesday, November 6, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Defensive Driving. This two-evening certification program lowers insurance premiums, reduces violation points, and sharpens driving skills. Presented by Robert Fogel. In the auditorium. Cost: $40. ·         Wednesday, November 7, 8 to 10 a.m.: Snoring Clinic. Participants will receive a brief screening examination to determine if they may be a candidate for a complete snoring and sleep apnea evaluation. ·         Monday, November 12, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Voice Problem Screening. This screening will help determine whether certain symptoms, such as hoarseness, change in voice, breathiness or other discomfort, may indicate a problem with the voice box. Problems affecting the voice box can include nodules, polyps, cysts, paralysis, reflux, and even cancer. Presented by Dr. Craig H. ·         Tuesday, November 13, 7 to 9 p.m. Who is Caring for the Caregiver? This program will offer an overview of services available through the Family Caregiver Support Program of the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs & Services. * "The Kress Family Legacy" will be the topic of an up-coming program on Wednesday, November 14 @ 7:30 p.m. Steven Worthy will offer a multi-media presentation about the Kress family who owned a 72 acre estate bordering the Towns of Ossining and New Castle from 1916-1959. Today we know the Ossining area as the Cedar Lane Park. The Kress family was famous for the 400 5, 10, & 25 cent stores they started. as well as collectors of some of the world's most famous pieces of art, now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The program is co-sponsored by the Ossining Historical Society Museum and the Ossining Public library

*"Three Tall Women" by Pulitizer Prize winning author Edward Albee will be on the OPL stage Thursday, November 15 @ 7:30 p.m. This M&M production starring Christine D'Amato, Christine Lorenzo and Sarah Smegal was directed by Larry Schneider. Free.

* “The Image Makers”: photography exhibit presented by members of the Westchester Photographic Society continues through November 9 it is on view on the lower level. Coming in mid-November is an exhibit by local artist and long time resident Edward Malsberg. The exhibit, a family affair, includes works by his son and grandson. On view until December 21.

 

Ossining High School Performing Arts Proudly Presents “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at the Ossining High School Auditorium 29 S. Highland Ave. Ossining. Admission is FREE. Performances are Thursday, Nov. 8th at 4PM, Friday, Nov. 9th at 7PM, Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7PM & Sunday, Nov 11th at 2PM.

 

The Ossining Lions Club is meeting at the Community Center on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Miriam Haas, Director of Community Markets. Live Presentation of the slideshow “An Inconvenient Truth” at the Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Avenue on November 19^th from 7 – 9 p.m. by Nadia Elrokhsy. Ms. Elrokhsy is the Associate Chair of the AAS degree program at Parsons The New School for Design, she teaches a course in Environmental Design for Interior Designers and also works with all four AAS degree programs to incorporate environmental issues into their coursework and develop new programs and events that address the complexities of sustainability in today’s consumer-driven economy. In addition to the slideshow a group of community retailers and consultants who are "doing Green" will present their wares and information in an area within the library that evening, giving people an opportunity to know what is available locally that will make a difference in our global environmental impact. The Ossining Farmers Market is open The market runs each Saturday through December 15^th from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at Market Square corner of Main and Spring St. Come to the market to buy farm fresh foods from the Hudson Valley. Shop for vegetables, fruit, organic produce, pasture raised meats, and specialty foods.  The market is sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce. For further information go to the website. Please note: Shoppers should not park behind the Chase Bank next to the market.
