Tonight, Friday, October 12, 7 pm Ossining High School Homecoming Game!  Come Cheer “Let’s Go O” under the Friday Night Lights!  The Ossining Booster Club will be on hand to sell refreshments and other Ossining memorabilia.  Check out the school district website to learn of weather-related cancellations.

 

Saturday Oct 13: Congresswoman Nita Lowey will be hosting Open Air Office Hours on the “front porch” of the Ossining Public Library.  Come talk to the Congresswoman about what’s on your mind regarding the federal government.

 

Fall Family Fun Day 2007 will be held at Market Square at the intersection of Main and Spring Street from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, October 13.   Join us for a great day of fun activities including hay rides, face painting, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting contest, festive music and a pie eating contest.  All are welcome and admission is free.

 

AqueFest Saturday, October 13, 2007 10:00 to 3:00 Sponsored by the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct.  Come and learn about the Old Croton Aqueduct.  Tours of the inside of the Aqueduct at the Weir Chamber in Ossining will be offered from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  If interested in taking a tour please meet at the Weir Chamber, which is on the Aqueduct on the north side of the Double Arch (walk north from Main Street).  Visitors are welcome to view the displays and see the video at the Ossining Community Center as well, or just enjoy the live music of High Voltage Band on the Aqueduct at Main Street from 1:00 to 3:00.  The Old Croton Aqueduct crosses Main Street just west of Route 9.

The Annual Ossining Public Library Fall Book Sale is scheduled for Friday, October 12 from 10-5, Saturday, October 13 from 10 - 5, Sunday, Oct. 14 from 12-5 and Monday, October 15 from 10a.m - 8 p.m.  Bag sale on Oct.16 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sale on Lower Level during Library hours.

Forgotten landmarks in the Hudson Valley will be the topic presented by authors: Rob Yasinsac and Tom Rinaldi on October 17 @7:30 p.m. The authors are on a special mission to save some abandoned ruins in the Hudson River valley that are treasures and reflect an earlier age in our history. Some of the treasures to be included in the talk are Overlook Mountain house in Woodstock, Brandreth Pill Factory in Ossining, and West Point Foundry in Cold Spring. Program co-sponsored with the Ossining Historical Society Museumand the library. Free.

Live theater on Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. Lanford Wilson's Pulitizer prize winner "Talley's Folly" will be on our stage. An M&M production stars Cynthia Granville and Francis Callahan.  Save the date of November 15 when Edward Albee's play "Three Tall Women" will grace our stage. Free

 

Noted Peace Activist, Father John Dear, to Speak at Maryknoll Father John Dear, S.J., a Jesuit priest, peace activist, popular lecturer and author, will speak at the Maryknoll Society Center, 55 Ryder Road in Ossining at 7:00 pm. on October 17, 2007, as part of the Maryknoll Speaker Series.  For directions call 914-941-7636 ext. 2294.  His lecture is entitled “The Beatitudes of Peace.”  Father Dear, a longtime practitioner and teacher of nonviolence, has worked for over 25 years with such groups as the Fellowship of Reconciliation and Pax Christi.  He has been arrested more than 75 times for acts of non-violent civil disobedience for peace.  His work for peace has taken him to war zones throughout the world including El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Haiti, the Middle East, the Philippines, Northern Ireland and Iraq.  Dear has authored hundreds of articles and over 25 books on peace and justice.  These include “Mohandas Gandhi and You Will be My Witnesses” (Orbis Books), and his newest book, “Transfiguration”, (Doubleday).  The Maryknoll Speakers Series offers timely and stimulating talks and discussions on matters of faith and social concern. Sample the Ports of Portugal A fund raiser for the maintenance of Ossining Sailing Club boats, sponsored by Doca’s Restaurant.  The event will be held Friday, October 19th from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club on the waterfront in Ossining (across from the train station).  Donation is $20 per person and you must be 21 or over to attend. 

 

Maryknoll International Film Festival and Discussion Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m.  The second offering of the new international film festival sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers will be shown on Friday Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining.  The series of nine monthly offerings entitled, Life through Death: God’s Self-sacrificing Love Revealed in Relationships, continues with Central Station, a 1998 Brazilian film from director Walter Salles.  Each film will be introduced by a Maryknoll missioner who will facilitate a brief discussion following the screening.  All are welcome.  The events are held at the Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining, N.Y. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Ossining High School Performing Arts Proudly Presents You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown at the Ossining High School Auditorium 29 S. Ossining Flotilla 67 U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every Month at OBCC.  The meetings began at 7:30pm at the Ossining Boat and Canoe Club on the Hudson River adjacent to the Metro North train station. Refreshments are served and visitors are always welcome.  A primary mission of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is to offer several educational courses aimed at making the public's boating experience safer and more enjoyable. America's Boating Course (ABC) is offered regularly by certified USCG Auxiliary Instructors at the Ossining Recreation Center. A VSC is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the USCG Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display if the vessel has passed the examination. Ossining Children’s Center 2007 Festival Stroll of Homes The Ossining Children’s Center, 2007 Festive Stroll of Homes will include tours of select homes in Briarcliff and Ossining, decorated in innovative holiday themes. Lunch at the nationally acclaimed Trump National Golf Club will follow the house tour.  Festive Strollers are also invited to Holbrook Cottage to join the home designers at a champagne reception.  November 16th-17th. The Ossining Farmers Market is open  The market runs each Saturday through December 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at Market Square corner of Main and Spring St.  Come to the market to buy farm fresh foods from the Hudson Valley.  Shop for vegetables, fruit, organic produce, pasture raised meats, and specialty foods.  The market is sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce.  For further information go to the website. Please note: Shoppers do not park behind the Chase Bank next to the market.
