The Ossining Farmers Market and will hold their Official Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this Saturday, June 16th 2007 at 10:30 a.m.  Please come to help the market celebrate 17 years in downtown Ossining!  The market will run each Saturday through December 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at Market Square corner of Main and Spring St.  Come to the market to buy farm fresh foods from the Hudson Valley.  Shop for vegetables, fruit, organic produce, pasture raised meats, and specialty foods.  The market is sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce.  For further information please visit the website.

 

Annual Portuguese Festival will be held this Saturday, June 16th, beginning at 12:00 p.m. There will be a parade beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Ann’s Church which will march down Churchill, to Ellis to Main Street to State Street, to Saint Paul’s to Spring St. and ending on Main Street.   All are invited to attend to enjoy music, dancing and food at this cultural celebration.  For further information call the Ossining Portuguese Center at 941-1550.

Ossining Historical Society 3rd Annual Community Picnic – Rain or Shine, June 16th 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Ryder Park. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $25.00 per person, children under 12 are $5.00 each. For additional information call the Historical Society at 941-0001.

Pre-graduation "Moving On - Waterfront Festival." Featuring Multicultural foods, Interfaith Prayers, Student Bands, including: "The Legends of the Hidden Temple," "LivNow," "High Voltage," "The Waterpistol Drivebys," Olivia Oppesidano, and others from Ossining and Briarcliff High School. The Ossining Arts Council presents its Spring Art Show at the Library from June 3-26. Exhibit on the Lower Level. Exhibit curated by John Wunderlich.

 

Ossining High School Graduation is scheduled for Friday, June 22 at 6 pm at the High school. 

The Village of Ossining has received the 2007 Westchester Municipal Planning Federation Annual Award for Passive and Active Recreation Expansion.  Recipients of the annual award are selected based on a projects value to the community, the degree of innovation and pioneering, the quality of results and relevance to current issues of planning importance.  The Village was recognized for dedicating 45 acres of parkland in 2006, doubling the total acreage of public parklands.  Also, in March of this year the Village opened a new aquatics facility adding 8,000 square feet to the existing community center.

 

The Ossining Public Library presents the Hand-to-Mouth Players production of the comedy"Breaking Legs" starring Frank Panzer, Kurt Lauer, Mark Firestone, Gary Simon, Toni Fazio and Tony Soares. Play directed by Karen Quinn-Panzer. Dates are Friday, June 22nd  @ 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 24th @ 2:00 p.m. Admission free. 

 

Ossining’s Independence Day Celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, July 3rd at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park.  There will be a concert starting at 7:30 p.m. music by “Channel One”.  Fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.  

 

Call for Artists: We are in the planning stages for our second Ossining Arts Festival to be held on Sunday, Sept 16. Display space for artists is available at a minimum charge. Please call Catherine Borgia at 262-8873 if you would like more information.

Town Crier Committee…The Village of Ossining is exploring the idea of creating a Town Crier Committee and is seeking volunteers to serve on same.  This committee would reach out to the people of Ossining, connecting our diverse population personally through various creative avenues and meetings and would also serve as a sounding board to the trustees.  Anyone interested in serving on this committee should send a letter of interest to the Ossining Village Manager’s Office, 16 Croton Avenue, Ossining.

 

Ossining Firefighters’ Parade will be held on August 3rd Step off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Croton and Calam Avenue.  Be sure to come to watch the parade and support our hundreds of volunteers!
