The 27th Annual Ossining Village Fair will be held this Saturday, June 9th, Main Street, Ossining.  Parade begins at 9:30 a.m.; the fair runs from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  For further information contact the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce at 941-0009 or visit the website.

 

Tonight, June 8 and Tomorrow, June 9, 8 pm, Ossining High School: Ossining’s own Old Mill Singers perform “Movie Madness,” songs from Hollywood.  Tickets available at the door. 

The Ossining Arts Council presents its Spring Art Show at the Library from June 3-26. Reception: June 10 from 2-4 p.m. Exhibit and reception on the Lower Level. Exhibit curated by John Wunderlich.

 

Sunday, June 10, 8:30 am: Ossining Boat and Canoe Club Scholarship breakfast.  Come support the Boat and Canoe Club’s mission to give back to the youth community.  And have a great breakfast at this beautiful Ossining waterfront gem!

The Village of Ossining has received the 2007 Westchester Municipal Planning Federation Annual Award for Passive and Active Recreation Expansion.  Recipients of the annual award are selected based on a projects value to the community, the degree of innovation and pioneering, the quality of results and relevance to current issues of planning importance.  The Village was recognized for dedicating 45 acres of parkland in 2006, doubling the total acreage of public parklands.  Also, in March of this year the Village opened a new aquatics facility adding 8,000 square feet to the existing community center.

We need you to attend the Comprehensive Plan Recommendation Meeting June 11: 7:30 p.m. at the Ossining High School Cafeteria.  A draft of recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan has been developed.  Please come to learn about the recommendations as well as provide us feedback.  This meeting will review recommendations for Waterfront and Downtown Development and Redevelopment, Historic Preservation; and Neighborhood Concerns (including Overcrowding and Residential Zoning Requirements).  For more information please contact the Village of Ossining Department of Planning at 762-6232 or email here.

Ossining Historical Society 3rd Annual Community Picnic – Rain or Shine, June 16th 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Ryder Park. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $25.00 per person, children under 12 are $5.00 each. For additional information call the Historical Society at 941-0001. 

 

Annual Portuguese Festival is scheduled for June 16th, beginning at 12:00 p.m. Main Street, all are invited to attend to enjoy music, dancing and food at this cultural celebration.  For further information call the Ossining Portuguese Center after 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday at 941-1550.

The Ossining Public Library presents the Hand-to-Mouth Players production of the comedy"Breaking Legs" starring Frank Panzer, Kurt Lauer, Mark Firestone, Gary Simon, Toni Fazio and Tony Soares. Play directed by Karen Quinn-Panzer. Dates are Friday, June 22nd  @ 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 24th @ 2:00 p.m. Admission free. 

 

Call for Artists: We are in the planning stages for our second Ossining Arts Festival to be held on Sunday, Sept 16. Display space for artists is available at a minimum charge. Please call Catherine Borgia at 262-8873 if you would like more information.

Town Crier Committee…The Village of Ossining is exploring the idea of creating a Town Crier Committee and is seeking volunteers to serve on same.  This committee would reach out to the people of Ossining, connecting our diverse population personally through various creative avenues and meetings and would also serve as a sounding board to the trustees.  Anyone interested in serving on this committee should send a letter of interest to the Ossining Village Manager’s Office, 16 Croton Avenue, Ossining.

 

The Ossining Farmers Market opened last weekend for the season, but will be closed this Saturday, June 9th during the Ossining Street Fair.     The market returns June 16th and runs through December 15th from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at Market Square corner of Main and Spring St.  Come to the market to buy farm fresh foods from the Hudson Valley.  Shop for vegetables, fruit, organic produce, pasture raised meats, and specialty foods.  The market is sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce.  For further information go to the Community Markets website.
