Ossining Draft Comprehensive Plan Unveiled

Two Public Meetings on November 29 and Dec 3 Begin Public Comment Period

 

(November 26, 2007) After almost two years of work, including soliciting extensive public input, Ossining’s Comprehensive Plan Committee released a draft last week, Mayor Bill Hanauer announced today.    “The draft plan is truly a collaboration between the residents of Ossining, our consultants Philips Priess & Shapiro, and the dedicated committee,” Hanauer commented. Comprehensive Plan Committee Chair John Codman agrees, saying, “ The Comprehensive Plan is a culmination of a large amount of work over the past two years which includes over 11, 500 responses from a Village wide survey, five public meetings, five focus group sessions, a month-long public comment period, and input from the Comprehensive Plan Committee, Zoning sub-committee, other village boards and committees, local organizations, and the Village’s consultants. The Village still has a large amount of work to do in the next year to finish this process.”

 

Two public meetings are scheduled to educate the public on the draft plan and proposed zoning code changes. The first meeting will be held November 29, 2007, 7:30-9:30pm at the Ossining Public Library. This meeting will be an open-house format, to allow residents to ask specific questions about the draft Comprehensive Plan and proposed Zoning Code changes. The second meeting will be held December 3 at 7:30-9:30pm at the OssiningPublic Library, and will include an overview presentation of the draft Plan and proposed Zoning Code change.

 

These two meeting represent the beginning of the public comment period, which will also include a detailed environmental analysis process.  Residents who wish to review the draft plan and zoning changes can find a copy on the village’s website, or can pick up a hard copy at the Ossining Municipal Building at 16 Croton Avenue, or in the Ossining Public Library.  Residents may also make comments and suggestions about the plan by contacting the Village Manager’s office at 914-941-3554, or by contacting any Village Trustee or Comprehensive Plan Committee member.
