Mayor Napolitano Announces Resignation; Trustee Hernandez to be Appointed Mayor at June 6 Board Meeting

Village Calls for Resumes to Fill Vacant Seat

(May 17, 2006)  Citing personal and family reasons, Ossining Mayor Gene Napolitano announced his resignation at last night’s Village Board meeting.  His resignation will be effective following the close of business on Friday, May 19, 2006.

At an executive board session held immediately following last night’s meeting, the remaining Village Trustees designated Trustee Hernandez to fill the mayoral vacancy created by the resignation, as per their responsibility spelled out in the Village charter.

Deputy Mayor Marlene Cheatham will act as Interim Mayor from the effective date of Mayor Napolitano’s retirement until June 6.  Trustee Cheatham will preside over the May 23 and May 31 work sessions and will open the June 6 Village Board meeting.  As the first order of business, Trustee Hernandez will be voted into office and sworn in as Mayor of the Village of Ossining.  Hernandez will then chair the remainder of the board meeting as the new Mayor.

Effective immediately, the Village will accept resumes for persons interested in being appointed to the Trustee position that will be left vacant by Hernandez’s appointment as Mayor.  Anyone interested in being considered for the open seat should send or bring a letter of intent and a resume to Ossining Village Manager Linda Abels at Village Hall, 16 Croton Ave., Ossining, NY 10562.  Candidates must be 18 years or older and must reside in the Village of Ossining.  Questions regarding the open position may also be directed to Mrs. Abels at 914-941-3554.  Resumes should be received by Wednesday, May 23.  Interviews of candidates will begin shortly after that date.
