Alert on Real Property Tax Payment

Due April 30, 2020

We are pleased to announce that thanks to special emergency authorizations issued by Governor Andrew Cuomo, County Executive George Latimer and the County Board of Legislators, the Town of Ossining is offering property taxpayers relief on their 2020 Town/County taxes due April 30, 2020.

Available Options for Late Payments Made on or before July 15, 2020

While the deadline for payment remains April 30, 2020, penalties for late payments have been substantially reduced for all taxpayers to .5% if payment is received in May 2020 and 1% if payment is received in June or through July 15, 2020. And for those who qualify for a hardship based upon criteria established by the County Executive, penalties will be waived in their entirety for payments received by July 15, 2020. Please note, these modified late penalties are only for payments made or postmarked by July 15, 2020 and those payments made after July 15, 2020 will be subject to standard penalty rates set forth in State and County law.

This only applies to those taxpayers who have not yet paid their Town/County taxes and no refunds can be given for payments already received.

Please visit the links below to see if you qualify for the hardship waiver during these difficult times.

How to Make a Hardship Claim

If you qualify for the hardship waiver, please complete and sign the applicable certification form and submit it with your payment on or before July 15, 2020 to:

    Ossining Tax Office, 16 Croton Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562

You completing and signing the certification form and submitting it to the Town serves as your sworn representation that you satisfy the criteria for the hardship waiver. When submitting the completed and signed certification form and payment, you do not have to provide any back-up documentation to demonstrate you satisfy the criteria, but should maintain such documentation in case it is requested at a future date, which the Town reserves the right to do.

As long as you qualify for the hardship waiver, there is no need to submit the completed certification form before the April 30, 2020 deadline, but instead submit it with your payment on or before July 15, 2020. However, if you do not make your payment by the April 30, 2020 deadline and do not qualify for the hardship waiver, the reduced penalty structure that applies to all taxpayers will be applied to your payment so long as it is received or postmarked by July 15, 2020.

Please Pay Your Taxes by the April 30, 2020 Deadline If You Can

If you can pay your taxes by the April 30, 2020 deadline, we ask that you do so in order to allow the Town and County to meet its financial obligations and continue to provide you with necessary services that are even more important during this turbulent time. The Tax Office remains closed to the public, but staff is still receiving and processing payments daily. Here is how you can pay your taxes by April 30, 2020:

  • By mail to Ossining Tax Office, 16 Croton Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562;
  • Via online payment;
  • Utilizing the dedicated mailslot at the Ossining Post Office (you must stamp your envelope, envelopes left prior to 5pm will be postmarked for that day, enveloped left after 5pm will be postmarked for the following day).

Only payments received or postmarked by April 30, 2020 without hardship certification will be considered timely and not assessed a late penalty.
