The Village of Ossining receives Westchester Municipal Planning Federation Commendation for Outstanding Planning Achievement for its “Village of Ossining Comprehensive Plan and Form-Based Overlay Districts.”
OSSINING, NY – The Village of Ossining has been chosen to receive a Commendation for Outstanding Planning Achievement by the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation in its 47th Annual Planning Awards program for its "Village of Ossining Comprehensive Plan and Form-Based Overlay Districts."
The commendation will be presented to the Village at the Federation's virtual awards presentation program scheduled to be held on Monday, November 29, 2021.

This prestigious award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our volunteer Comprehensive Plan Committee, co-chaired by Ossining residents Melissa Banta and Pat Yost, as well as our Village Staff, including Director of Planning Jaime Martinez and our comprehensive plan consultants at BFJ Planning.

The process for updating our comprehensive plan took nearly two years. Numerous hours of community engagement sessions and meetings with the Village's key stakeholders culminated in a uniquely designed form –based zoning overlay zone that will help to catalyze economic revitalization in Ossining's Croton Avenue and Main Street corridors.

Unlike traditional zoning that focuses on the type of building use allowed in a specific area, form-based zoning focuses on building form as it relates to the streetscape and adjacent uses, relying on design concepts intended to preserve the historic assets and character of a community. The new form-based overlay districts support the community's strongly voiced desire to maintain and enhance Ossining's historic architecture and village charm.
