The Village of Ossining is in the process of transforming its Planning and Development Department. There are opportunities for waterfront & core redevelopment, transportation planning, as well as regional planning opportunities for a waterfront park system with connection to regional bike trails, and other amenities.
The Director of Planning and Development will oversee all aspects of the Planning Department as well as conducting physical planning studies involving land use, population, highways, traffic flow, housing, utilities, recreation areas, soil and water conservation through field surveys and use of reference materials. Thorough knowledge of the general principles and techniques used in municipal planning is needed; good knowledge of zoning and subdivision principles and practices; ability to compile, analyze and interpret data; ability to prepare site designs and plans. The Director of Planning and Development will also be responsible for community presentations and attendance at State and Regional forums.
The Planner will be responsible for assisting customers with applications, provide exceptional customer service as well as assist local residents, business owners and developers in understanding and navigating the planning approval process. The Planner will also provide consistent guidance and informational assistance for how to navigate our land use boards, planning processes and associated codes and regulations.
The Director of Planning and Development & the Planner are competitive positions that will require qualifying under the Civil Service guidelines. Information on both the guidelines and Civil Service exam process can be found on the Westchester County’s website.
