9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Ossining

What: It’s going to be a busy weekend in downtown Ossining! Our annual free community corn roast is on Saturday from 10am-12pm. Come get an ear of corn grown by our farmers and roasted over a coal fire by Pono “The Corn King.” Let us know if you can arrive early to help shuck corn by emailing info@downtoearthmarkets.com Sharper Service will be back in the market so be sure to bring your kitchen knives, garden tools and scissors to be sharpened while you shop. Be sure to wrap or box everything carefully for safe transport. Our visiting vendors include Buli estate bottled Italian olive oil, Nahmias et Fils Distillery with Yonkers-made Mahia, Rye and Bourbon and Spice Tree Organics with small batch, hand-blended organic spice mixes. All your favorite weekly vendors will be there too! Keep in mind that the Ossining Matters run-walk will also be leaving from the Main Street area at 9am, so you may have to access the market from Spring Street.

Ferry Sloops Summer Music Series: Sarah Browne
What: The popular “Summer Music Series” concludes the season with the music of Sarah Browne. Sarah's debut album, entitled "To You", showcases honest, poetic songwriting that comes from the heart. Inspired by the folk, country and pop genres, this eclectic collage of songs, is in a genre of its own. Her style is characterized by her ability to create tantalizing melodies that take on an integral part of each song. Solo Acoustic Guitarist and Westchester Native Drew Bordeaux Performs at Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)
What: Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) will present another world-class musical artist with an appearance by vocalist and guitar soloist Drew Bordeaux. A Mount Kisco native well known throughout the Hudson Valley, the tri-state metro region and beyond, Bordeaux is a singer/songwriter and producer who plays compelling solo acoustic shows rooted in percussive acoustic guitar and earthy/soulful vocals, laced with live loops and violin solos. He has jammed with Lauryn Hill, performed with Dave Bickler (of Survivor), opened for Daughtry and Boz Scaggs, and played at such iconic NYC venues as The Bitter End and Café Vivaldi.

What:  What better way to take action on Climate Action Day, than to ride a bike instead of taking the car to do your errands? Put on your helmet, get on your bike and ride on over to Market Square and join other residents looking to pedal about Ossining.  Pedal Peekskill will have some pedal assist demo bikes on hand to try out on our hills. Sparta Walking Tour
What: The next-to-the-last walking tour of 2018 of the historic Sparta neighborhood at the south end of Ossining will be held on this Sunday, September 9. The tour will begin at the Jug Tavern at 1 p.m. with a showing of the video “The Battle for Sparta.” Participants will then walk about six blocks through the neighborhood learning about the historic homes in the landmarked district; the tour will end at around 3 p.m. Dr. Alan Stahl, a neighborhood resident and chair of the Village of Ossining Historic Preservation Commission, who teaches in the History Department of Princeton University, will lead the tour.

Theater O Announces OPEN AUDITIONS for its Fall Middle School Production
What: This October Theater O will present an early comedy by David Mamet The Revenge of the Space Pandas or Binky Ruditch and the Two-Speed Clock. Audition signups are on on the Theater O website. This play will showcase middle school actors and is open to all 6th through 8th grade children. It will offer experiences in all aspects of theater. Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons for 6 weeks. Three presentations of the play will run October 25 through 27 at Bethany Arts Community, 40 Somerstown Road, Ossining. Tickets to the show will be available for purchase in early October.

Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers International Film Festival
What: Children of Heaven Description: The September film in the 2018-2019 International Film Festival sponsored by the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers is a 1997 Iranian family drama film written and directed by Majid Majidi. It deals with a brother and sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998. The film festival provides nine monthly offerings on Friday evenings from September to May. The current series -- “Family” -- includes an introduction by a Maryknoll missioner and a brief discussion after the screening.

What: MITS is a free, self-guided walking tour and consists of 25 numbered panels with images and explanatory text about the architecturally and historically significant buildings within the Downtown Ossining Historic District.

Where: The tour starting point is located on the north side of the Ossining Open Door Medical Center at 247 Main St. in Downtown Ossining. However visitors one can also begin at any of the numbered panels and take as few or as many panels as desired.

What: This group of high school students makes fun events happen for their peers at the public library and take part in everything from brainstorming, to planning, to advertising, to setting up and finally to enjoying the great event! Also help us serve you and your peers better by recommending what you think we should have at the library. We are always open to any new projects that you think TAB and the library should take on so that the library is a welcoming place for high school students. Meetings are held at the library on the first Sunday of the month from 4 - 5 PM. Shorter meetings are held on Thursdays after school in the cafeteria at Briarcliff High School. You do not need to attend all meetings to be a member. Come to what you can and let your voice be heard!

Trivia Night with "Let's Go Trivia!" 
What:  Grab your friends, co-workers or family and come down to 6 Degrees of Separation Restaurant & Brewery to test your general knowledge. It's FREE to play!  Join us for a night of fun, friendly competition, awesome craft beer and amazing food.  "Let's Go Trivia" consists of 5 rounds with 10 questions per round. One point is given for every correct answer and the team with the most overall points after 5 rounds is that night's winner. Free Online Full-length Diagnostic ACT or SAT
What: Club Z! In-Home Tutoring Services​ is offering a free online diagnostic ACT or SAT to all Ossining and Croton high school students.  Upon completion of the diagnostic test students will be given a comprehensive score assessment, pinpointing areas of strength and weakness.  Following the test, for 30 days students will have access to video tutorials for all diagnostic test questions.

Be a part of the musical Once on this Island jr this fall!
What: Kids ages 6 and up can be a part of our fall musical theater production of Once on this Island Jr. Rehearsals start in September in the evenings, shows are in December. Rehearsals are one or two night each week and include vocal caching, acting and movement. We are accepting cast members and crew members.

Theater O fall class registration
What: It is time to make plans with Best of Westchester’s “2018 Readers Choice Best Children’s Theater” Theater O for the upcoming Fall / Winter semester. Theater O offers classes for Pre K to 2nd graders, elementary school-aged children, middle school students and high schoolers. From Musical Theater and Acting to Improv and Voice Over to Directing and Playwriting and more, there are classes for all theater interests. Sing Sing Prison Museum Kickstarter Campaign
What: YOU CAN HELP TO CROWDFUND FOR THE MUSEUM’S NEW PREVIEW CENTER Guess what? The Sing Sing Prison Museum has just launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign!  Our goal is to raise at least $30,000 to get us started on building a Preview Center in the former Power House at Sing Sing, soon to be the Museum’s home. What: The Old Mill Singers is a community choral group for singers at all levels. If you are an experienced singer, or just love to sing in the shower, then this is the choral group for you! Lots of fun, good people, all different genres of music! You don’t have to read music or go through an audition. Our Director is terrific...the very talented Danny Gray. We do two formal concerts a year and also provide a number of concerts at other venues and nursing homes around the area throughout the year.
