OSSINING WEEKLY WEB BLAST June 25, 2020
Village & Town Information
The Village of Ossining is committed to share up-to-date and relative information regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic. In our weekly web blasts you will find this section dedicated to new information. For previously shared information, please visit the Village of Ossining's dedicated Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) page.
Helpful Information from New York State
The New York State Department of Financial Services has reached an agreement with credit reporting agencies to provide free credit reports to consumers and help reduce negative consumer credit reporting. This agreement will help New York consumers facing hardship caused by COVID-19 to avoid unjustified negative impacts on their credit reports. DFS also urges New York State-regulated financial institutions to furnish credit information in ways that minimizes negative impacts on consumers.

Global public health experts have cleared the Mid-Hudson Valley to enter Phase 3 of reopening. Business guidance for Phase 3 of the state's reopening plan is available here
The Nourish NY Initiative continues to provide New Yorkers in need with access to healthy food. Over the past 50+ days, Nourish NY has purchased 4.8 million pounds, or 557,018 gallons, of raw milk from farmers, which has been distributed to New Yorkers in the form of yogurt, cheese and other dairy products, in addition to milk. 394 distributions have taken place with an estimated 114,833 households receiving Nourish NY products.

The Yankees and Mets will resume their spring training in New York. The teams will hold their training at Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, respectively. The Mets will host a soft opening this week for players who want to begin preparing. Both teams will work with the State to ensure proper health and safety protocols.

Over the past weekend, a New York-bred horse won the Belmont Stakes. Usually the final leg in the Triple Crown, this year the Long Island race was the first, held on Saturday ahead of both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. This was the first time since 1882 that a New York-bred horse won the Belmont. Congratulations to New York's own Tiz the Law and jockey Manuel Franco!

$65 million in federal CARES Act funding is available for child care providers statewide through the New York Forward Child Care Expansion Incentive program. The funding being made available today will help bring closed programs back to operation to serve families returning to the workplace. Details on the grants and how child care programs can apply are available here

A study found that New York State is one of only three states currently on track to contain COVID. The two other states were New Jersey and Massachusetts, according to COVID Act Now. I can't stress enough how important it is that we don't jeopardize this incredible progress.

A shout out to New York's grocery workers. For many New Yorkers, work never stopped during this crisis. Watch our video highlighting the compassion and strength of NY's grocery store workers who helped carry us through the worst of this pandemic.

Social gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed as part of Phase 4. Currently, gatherings of up to 25 people are permitted in regions that are in Phase 3.

The MTA Subway system had more than 1 million daily riders this week, the highest since the COVID-19 crisis began. Ridership is still far below its pre-COVID daily weekday average of 7+ million riders. Every single day, every single subway car is disinfected and cleaned, just one of the several precautions undertaken to protect the health of passengers.

A note on malls, movie theaters and gyms. These industries are unusually risky from a health standpoint. The State is undertaking further study to ensure we make informed decisions before reopening these businesses.
Volunteer New York’s program to connect small business owners to trained volunteer professionals who can provide PPP help is now back online. Unlike other opportunities on their website, this one is specifically for small business owners who want to receive consultations.

What can you do?
As many of you know, our local food pantries and non-profits have been coming together to ensure our community does not go hungry. We can’t thank these organizations enough for all their help. Below you will find links to our local non-profits that have been working in partnership with the Village of Ossining to distribute food to people who need it. If you would like to provide donations or volunteer support we encourage you to do so*.

These efforts will continue through this COVID-19 pandemic and thereafter. We are proud to say that many of our local restaurants are also taking donations toward providing meals to those in the community that cannot leave their homes. We will be including this information in a section of our Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) web page.

Please send emails to webblast@villageofossining.org if you know of any other Ossining based agencies that are providing food during this time so that we can add them to this list.

We appreciate your commitment to our community.
Tri-State Mask Makers are creating masks for those in need - healthcare workers to neighbors in nursing home.

Your donation will allow many sewists to continue with their work of love.
The Ossining Micro Fund is a non-profit organization offering interest-free loans to individuals and families who encounter unexpected financial obstacles. Our philosophy is to “pay it forward” – when a loan recipient repays a loan, the money becomes available to help another person in need. Click here for information .
