Ossining Jazz Festival a tribute to Women in Jazz & Blues

What: The Second Annual Ossining Jazz Festival will take place on the evenings of Friday & Saturday June 8 & 9. The event, which will feature Anne Carpenter, KJ Denhert, Camille Gainer Jones, Kristen Mather de Andrade performing at the Ossining Elks Club, as we pay tribute to the Women in Jazz & Blues. Capping off the festivities will be the Ossining Jazz Festival for Kids Day.  master class with Ingrid Jensen for the Ossining School Jazz Ensemble followed by a performance of the Ossining School Jazz Ensemble on Sunday, June 10 at the Bethany Arts Community.

Make Music flyer
Make Music Day Ossining Briarcliff 2018
What: Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. This year, Mike Risko Music will be hosting the Make Music Alliance event in various locations in Ossining/Briarcliff to celebrate this growing event.  There will be about 25 local musicians performing in pop-up scheduled concerts, including the front lawn of the Ossining Village Hall at noon! 
When/Where: Summer Solstice June 21, 2018, with the event kicking off at Mike Risko Music @ 10 AM and will wrap up with a jam session at the Boat House with all the featured artists at 8:00 PM.  You can view the full schedule here

What: This week at the farmers market, SVF Kitchen will have pulled pork from their own Sunset View Farm pasture-raised pork, slow cooked on site and available by the ½ pound, whole pound and sandwich, starting at 11am. Grab a plate and grab a chair in our café area to enjoy at the market or bring some home. R&G Produce starts their season at the market, D&J Farm will bring their wide variety of Long Island grown produce, Mead Orchards will have apples and cider and Taliaferro Farm will have organics. OSSINING ARTS COUNCIL - CALL TO ARTISTS
What: The Ossining Arts Council is proud to sponsor the 2018 OAC Members’ Show on display from June 2nd through June 25th, 2018 at the Ossining Public Library’s Main Exhibition Hall. This annual event has become one of the biggest and best attended shows of its kind, attracting artists from 34 communities throughout the Hudson Valley. This exhibit is open to all professional, amateur or student
visual artists. Our mission is to give participating artists the greatest public exposure possible. In addition to the June exhibit, each artist will receive a one year OAC membership which comes with a searchable online gallery, space for artworks and biographies available 24/7 along with links and social network integration. A perfect venue for those who want to be seen. Your membership also gains access to our home at the OAC Steamer Firehouse Gallery. Westchester Collaborative Theater Presents Five-Piece Jazz Band Les Hommes de Cave
What: On Saturday, June 2, Les Hommes de Cave, a five-piece, edgy jazz band featuring Ossining resident Ann Gulian as lead vocalist will perform in Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT)’s Jazz Masters Series.  Les Hommes de Cave performs mainstream jazz that mixes classic standards with influences from Haiti, Brazil and American R&B and explores a broad range of music through the lens of be-bop and post be-bop traditions. The members are Philippe Charles on bass; Graham Gulian on drums; Rik Kaufman on piano; Jeremy Kattell on Sax; and Dan Williams on trombone.

The Ossining Documentary & Discussion Series Screening of MAJOR!
What: MAJOR! follows the life and campaigns of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a 73-year-old Black transgender woman who has been fighting for the rights of trans women of color for over 40 years. Miss Major’s extraordinary life and personal story is one of resilience and celebration. While mainstream gay rights and marriage equality dominate the headlines, Miss Major’s life is a testament to the fierce survivalism and every day concerns of transgender women of color, who so often live in the margin of the already marginalized.  MAJOR! Is the story of one woman’s journey, a community’s history, and how caring for each other can be a revolutionary act. Panelists: Cole Rivers: Writer/Spoken word artist, Community Activist. Cole  is an innovative writer, spoken word performance artist, and a community activist, focusing on supporting youth in the arts. He is also a leader in the local SGI Buddhist Organization, which focuses on fostering capable young people in today’s society. He identifies as transgender and uses He/Him/His pronouns. Brendon L. Scholl: Ossining High School SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Acceptance) member.  Brendon is a very active member of the local LGBTQ community and Ossining High School's SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Acceptance). They’ve worked with the Trevor Project for a mini-documentary about art, being LGBTQ, and the connection between the two as well as attending the annual Prideworks at Pace.  Brendon looks forward to continuing a dialogue for LGBTQ youth.

The Sting, the play
What: Theater O is delighted to return to Bethany with our production of The Sting. With gender-blind casting (seventh-grader Audrey Schnecker plays Johnny Hooker, the Robert Redford role), this show encapsulates the slick and sassy world of the 1930s con.  Working with unique staging (audience on two sides) and fun choreography and music, the play will delight audiences of all ages.

Storm Drain Stenciling  Anti-Pollution Project hosted by Riverkeeper/Green Ossining/Village of Ossining's DPW

What: MITS is a free, self-guided walking tour and consists of 25 numbered panels with images and explanatory text about the architecturally and historically significant buildings within the Downtown Ossining Historic District.

Where: The tour starting point is located on the north side of the Ossining Open Door Medical Center at 247 Main St. in Downtown Ossining. However visitors one can also begin at any of the numbered panels and take as few or as many panels as desired.

What: This group of high school students makes fun events happen for their peers at the public library and take part in everything from brainstorming, to planning, to advertising, to setting up and finally to enjoying the great event! Also help us serve you and your peers better by recommending what you think we should have at the library. We are always open to any new projects that you think TAB and the library should take on so that the library is a welcoming place for high school students. Meetings are held at the library on the first Sunday of the month from 4 - 5 PM. Shorter meetings are held on Thursdays after school in the cafeteria at Briarcliff High School. You do not need to attend all meetings to be a member. Come to what you can and let your voice be heard!

Ossining Jazz at the Lodge
What: Ossining Jazz at the Lodge takes place at the Elks Lodge in Ossining, local jazz musicians will be performing. All door proceeds go to the band. Cash bar and food provided by the Lodge. A separate $10 buffet starts at 6pm.

Free Online Full-length Diagnostic ACT or SAT
What: Club Z! In-Home Tutoring Services​ is offering a free online diagnostic ACT or SAT to all Ossining and Croton high school students.  Upon completion of the diagnostic test students will be given a comprehensive score assessment, pinpointing areas of strength and weakness.  Following the test, for 30 days students will have access to video tutorials for all diagnostic test questions.

Youth Music Program for Kids 4-17
What:  The Youth Music Program provides small group lessons for kids (ages 4-17) in singing, rudimental and hand drumming and guitar, and instruction in how to practice, how to audition and in etiquette for performance – plus snacks and supervised play. The Youth Music Program is for the benefit of children from the community at large, regardless of their religious backgrounds. It does not include religious content.

Meet characters of five old testament stories at BCC Vacation Bible School
What:  Interactive morning Bible camp Ages 5-10 yrs

Info: This program will take your children on a different adventure each day where they will hear stories and meet characters from five Old Testament stories. This program will be fun and interactive. There will be singing, arts and crafts, cartoons, and games. It will be run by Rev. Todd Farnsworth and the staff and volunteers of BCC. While this program is for 5-10 yr olds, older children may attend as 'no fee' volunteer counselors. This program is open to the community so bring a friend! Both breakfast and a snack will be served each day. Cost is $20 per child with a max of $40 per family. Scholarships available.
