Enjoying our Town Parks and Public Spaces Safely

We are happy to see so many people enjoying our Town of Ossining Parks this summer. We are glad to see that our beloved parks and public spaces offer welcome solace for families seeking some time outdoors during these difficult times.

We love our parks and we need to all work to take care of these valuable resources. More attendance at our parks leads to more garbage and a higher tendency for people to let down their guard when it comes to social distancing. Each of us needs to do our part to take care of one another to ensure our parks remain safe spaces, and our neighbors healthy.

As we move into the second half of the summer, the Town is committing to the following:

  • Enforcing park hours: The Ossining Police have been asked to remind park attendees that our parks close at 9:00pm.
  • Placing more garbage cans in high use areas: Our Parks Department will be ordering additional garbage cans and dumpsters to help accommodate the increase in garbage we have been seeing in our parks, with a focus on Louis Engel Park.
  • Assigning Parks staff on weekends: You will start to see more Town and Village Recreation and Parks staff around on the weekends to help remind park goers of our rules regarding use of permitted spaces, barbecues, and to enforce social distancing requirements at park facilities, especially in and around the Louis Engel Park Spray Park, Gerlach Park and Cedar Lane Park.
  • Proper permitting: Making sure any gathering of 20 or more utilizing the designated grilling areas at Louis Engel Park has applied for and obtained a permit through Community Pass in our Recreation department.

We are all in this together! Your cooperation is essential to making this a fun and safe summer for all in our Town of Ossining parks.

  • Please follow all rules in our parks: No consumption of alcohol in Town parks. Grills may only be used in designated grilling areas and you must use designated receptacles for disposing of used charcoal.
  • Please dispose of your garbage properly: Use designated trash receptacles. If they are full, do not just place your garbage next to the garbage can. Find another can with room in it, or better yet, bring out any garbage or other items you brought in with you.
  • Please follow all social distancing guidelines: You must wear a mask when you cannot properly socially distance from others who are not part of your immediate family. There are also strict rules currently in place regarding use of the Louis Engel Park Spray Park, please follow the instructions of the life guard attendant at the park regarding its use and be respectful to those hired to help protect your safety while using the park. Work into your schedule that there may be wait times associated with use, and limitations on the time you can use the Spray Pad, to make sure everyone has a chance to cool off and have fun!
  • Please be respectful of others around you: Our parks are family spaces. We love to see so many young adults and adults enjoying our parks for exercise, but if you are near families and children during your workout, be sure to use headphones when listening to music.
