HPC's 2020 High School Essay/Video Contest Winner: Emily Huang

Crotonville school

On behalf of the Village of Ossining Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), we would like to congratulate Ossining High School's budding writer, Emily Huang, for winning the HPC's 2020 High School Essay/Video Contest.

Her essay on the Crotonville School building presented a well-researched overview of the building's history from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. It also showed a detailed description of the building's architectural features and a clear explanation of how its architectural features are characteristic of the Italianate architectural style. Moreover, the essay demonstrated a genuine personal interest in the Crotonville School building and its preservation. By every measure, this essay was excellent.

Ms. Huang's essay will help raise public awareness of the Crotonville School building. More generally, it will help enhance public appreciation of the contribution that historically and architecturally significant structures make to the distinctive character of the Village.

We in the Village of Ossining hope that she will continue to take an interest in advocating for the preservation of these structures in the years ahead. Emily Huang's essay can be found on the Village's website here: http://ow.ly/ggI650CSdXl, where it can be translated into over 100 languages.

Congratulations again!
