Author Reveals Motive for JFK Assassination and Explains why the truth still matter 45 years later.  In his new book, JFK and the Unspeakable author and peace activist James W. Douglass has written a compelling, persuasive account of why President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and why the unmasking of this truth remains crucial for the future of our country and the world.  He will present his findings at a lecture at the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Center in Ossining on Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at 7 p.m.  Drawing on wide research, Douglass traces a sequence of steps-- from the failed Bay of Pigs invasion and the standoff of the Cuban Missile Crisis, right up to his final days--that transformed JFK from a conventional Cold Warrior to someone determined to pay the ultimate price for peace.  Those actions, Douglass argues, caused members of his own U.S. military-intelligence establishment to regard him as a dangerous traitor who had to be eliminated.  According to Douglass, it is only by learning the dangerous truth of our history and unmasking the forces behind JFK’s death, that we can free ourselves and our country to pursue his vision of peace.  Critics have called JFK and the Unspeakable “a peerless and extraordinary historical contribution,” “a myth-exploding story,” “a stunning mix of political thriller and meticulous scholarship.” Gaeton Fonzi, former Staff Investigator for the US House Select Committee on Assassinations, has called it “by far the most important book yet written on the subject.”  Douglass presents an unfamiliar story that is by turns shocking, illuminating, and inspiring.  Lecture will take place at the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Center, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining.  For directions call 941-7636 ext. 2294.  All are welcome.  Admission is free.  Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, the U.S.-based Catholic foreign mission society, has been representing U.S. Catholics in overseas mission since 1911. They currently serve in 29 countries worldwide, promoting human rights and social justice for those in need.  For more information consult the World Wide Web at www.maryknollsociety.org.
