Ossining Parks and Recreation Superintendent Henry Atterbury Recipient of the 2008 Rosemarie Siragusa Memorial Youth Service Award

(October 21, 2008)  Ossining Village Mayor William R. Hanauer announced that this year the Westchester County Youth Bureau and Youth Board will present the 2008 Rosemarie Siragusa Memorial Youth Service Award to Ossining Parks and Recreation Superintendent Henry Atterbury.  The Rosemarie Siragusa Memorial Youth Service Award honors an outstanding individual who has demonstrated a commitment to serving youth and families.  The award also recognizes adults, aged 21 and over, who have made major contributions towards the youth of their communities.  William Hanauer added “Henry is very deserving of this distinguished award; he has worked for the Village for ten years and has always displayed exemplary leadership with children of all ages on land, as well as on the Hudson River.”

For over 25 years, Rosemarie Siragusa volunteered as an advocate for youth, particularly in the area of education.  She was a founder and Chairman of the Westchester County Youth Board.  She was involved in the local, county and state levels of the PTA, and served as the President of the Yonkers Council of PTAs.  Rosemarie was also a trustee and officer of the Yonkers Board of Education.

This year the Westchester County Youth Bureau and Youth Board selected Henry Atterbury who epitomizes the value system and service priorities of caring, knowledge and concern for youth that Rosemarie Siragusa demonstrated throughout her life.  Ossining Village Trustee and Recreation Liaison, Marlene Cheatham said “under the leadership of Mr. Atterbury we have watched our Recreation Department youth programming and facilities continually enhance providing a variety of quality programs, including swimming, tennis, sailing and basketball to name only a few. ”

Presentation of this award will be made at the November 19th Westchester County Board of Legislator's Meeting, at 5:15 pm at the Michaelian Office Building, 148 Martine Avenue, 9th floor, White Plains.
