The Baker- Collyer Christmas Cheer Fund which was started by an Ossining merchant who witnessed two children picking through a garbage pile for food 96 years ago has started to solicit contributions for this year's drive. Over 370 local needy families in the Ossining area were aided through last year's generous community efforts. The funds go solely to purchase food for the holiday baskets. The administration efforts are handled by volunteers and the baskets are packed and delivered by members of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department. This year the packing will take place at A & P, Pleasantville Road on the evening of December 22nd and delivered in the early morning of December 23rd.  To personally see the look or hear a thank you from the appreciative recipients makes our holiday season that much brighter and rewarding.  Please consider being part of this 96 year tradition. Contributions can be sent to the Baker-Collyer Christmas Cheer Fund, c/o Town of Ossining, 16 Croton Avenue, Ossining, NY 10562 or by contacting John Crawford, Chairman at 914-438-9843 or johngcrawford@aol.com

OLD MILL SINGERS CELEBRATE 40 YEARS IN HOLIDAY STYLE, The Old Mill Singers, your local community chorus based in Ossining, announces that our combined anniversary and holiday concert will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 2nd and 3rd, 2011, at Ossining High School.  We are continuing our celebration of 40 years of entertaining the Westchester community and will perform chorus favorites and a variety of holiday themed songs.  Some selections are “African Star Carol,” “Hanukkah Madrigal,” “Silver Bells,” and Beethoven’s “Hallelujah.”  We may sing classical pieces, but unlike most local choral groups, our focus is on lighter fare.  Santa and his elves will be coming to our show as the audience shares in a sing-along. Show time is 8:00 PM both evenings and tickets can be purchased at the door at, $10 for children (up to 12 years old) and senior citizens, and $15 for other adults. The Old Mill Singers was founded 40 years ago as the Phelps Arts Society to provide music for hospital patients during the holiday season, and continues to perform in nursing homes, at Rosary Hill, at community events, and at holiday time at the Met Life Building to entertain commuters as they head for Grand Central Terminal.  Twice each year, in December and June, public performances are given at Ossining High School. Plan on attending our December concert.   There is convenient free parking, handicapped accessibility, free refreshments, and lots of fun. They couldn't do this work without your financial support. During this holiday season, please consider making a donation to the Charles L. Brieant Community Center. You can donate by mail to PO Box 429 Ossining NY 10562. Be assured that when you make a financial donation, to the CBCC, 90% of your donation goes directly to our programs. Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come Brought to Life by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival’s Staged Reading of Dickens’ Christmas Carol I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me.  May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant, C. D. December, 1843. A new holiday tradition was started a few years ago when the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival presented a staged reading of the Fezziwig section of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in the Mansion at Boscobel.  The tradition will continue and expand in December when the actors return to the Mansion for three consecutive weekends to read of Christmas Past, Present and Yet-to-Come from the classic novella. Performances are: Friday, December 2 at 7pm; Saturday, December 3 at 6pm; Friday, December 9 at 7pm; Saturday, December 10 at 6pm; Friday, December 16 at 7pm; Saturday, December 17 at 6pm. Tickets for all performances are $75 and may be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/202127. For more information visit www.hvshakespeare.org or call 845-809-5750. "Lead on!" said Scrooge. "Lead on! The night is waning fast, and it is precious time to me, I know. Lead on, Spirit!" In the warm glow of the great entry hall of the Mansion at Boscobel, decorated for the holidays, HVSF actors Richard Ercole, Eleanor Handley, Katie Hartke and Stephan Paul Johnson, will retell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Under the direction of HVSF Founding Artistic Director Terrence O’Brien, the actors will take the audience along on the long night’s journey from Christmas Past to that which is Yet-to-Come in their trademark style, closer to Dickens than Disney, bringing the text to life without extra frills. The reading will be followed by a special holiday celebration feast and libations in the lower hall."It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour."
