-It's That Time Again!  Need Help With Your Taxes?  Tax Aide will be available at the Ossining Public Library on Thursdays thru April 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the theater.  Tax Aide volunteers have been IRS trained and certified.  Bring last year's tax forms, social security statements, bank statements, and any other pertinent information (i.e. contributions).  For more information please contact:  Jane Clark at 914-941-2416 ext. 326, or the Reference Dept. at ext. 320. 

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2009 will take Place March 22 – April 3rd…Make Your Reservations Now!  Tim and Nina Zagat, co-founders of Zagat Survey, the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based information, have once again signed on as honorary co-chairs of Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, the largest regional promotion of restaurants in the Hudson Valley. This 12-day celebration of fine dining, now in its third year and spanning seven counties, will take place from March 22 through April 3 (Sunday-Friday only). Ossining Public Library Events:

-“The Eclectic Quintet" is a group of five ardent photographers from the Westchester Photographic Society whose photographic works will be on display from March 1-29th at the library.  The Quintet is composed of Robert Baron, Rob Dublin, Walter Kimmel, Albert Tang, and Dennis Thornton.


Sleepy Hollow Sprint Triathlon Registration Online Begins on March 2, 2009 at  The triathlon will take place on June 28th at 8:30 a.m. at Kingsland Point Park and consists of ½ mile swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run through Sleepy Hollow and scenic Hudson River.  Open to individual and team participation.  For more information email Benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.


On Monday, March 23rd a program on Collaborative Practice: a different approach to divorce will be presented in the Conference Room at the Ossining Public Library beginning at 7:30 p.m. This free program will be conducted by attorneys at law Lauren Morrissey and Jessica Bacal and psychologist Peggy Herzog.  Collaborative Practice is a type of dispute resolution which enables couples to divorce without resorting to adversarial tactics and to minimize the negative effects of divorce on families.  The goal of Collaborative Practice is to reach an agreement before going to court, making the breakup as painless as possible.

"Does faith still matter?"  Teens pose the question to a panel of leaders from six different faiths, including Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Humanist, Jewish and Christian on Thursday, March 26th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ossining Public Library Theater on the lower level. This event is sponsored by the Interfaith Youth Corp and will be co-moderated by Talia Fox and Rev. Stephen Holton.  Young people will be discussing the relevance of religion to issues of war, drugs, sex, poverty, violence, racism, the environment and the influence of pop music and culture today. Youth and interested adults are encouraged to have questions ready for this unique opportunity.  This event is free and open to the public and refreshments (kosher and nonkosher) will be served.  Interested adults are also welcome. OPL Event…Paintings and drawings spanning 75 years by the late WPA Artist Jerome Henry Roth will be on exhibit at the Ossining Public Library from April 1-25. Opening reception will be Saturday, April 4 from 2-4 p.m. A graduate of Pratt Institute, Roth became the youngest member of the poster division of the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression.  He went on to design posters for the U.S. Tourist Bureau, Orson Welles Theatre, and the U.S. Dept. of Health and later for Warner Brothers producing material for movies. During W.W. II Roth volunteered with the U.S. Army Air Corps flying 30 missions over Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.  After the War he returned to drawing and painting.  His paintings have been shown over the years at the Garrison Art Center, Cortlandt Center for the Arts, Overseas Press Club, Nardin Fine Art in Cross River, at the Susan Teller Gallery in New York, at Silvermine Guild in Ct. and elsewhere in the East.


Westchester Bike Summit is an event that draws together planners, public officials, employers, and cyclist to discuss how to make biking and bike commuting more a part of Westchester’s transportation mix.  The event is free and will take place on Tuesday, April 7th at Westchester County Center in White Plains and runs from 3 – 8 p.m.  Register at  Call 914-217-5600 for more information. 


John Paul Rodrigues Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner and Show at the Westchester Broadway Theatre on April 8th, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  The Scholarship is in memory of John-Paul Rodrigues, a 1998 graduate of Ossining High School and Village of Ossining sanitation worker who died on the job on July 20, 2005.  Tickets are $75.00 per person.  For reservations, or if you have any questions contact Joe Rodrigues at 941-3277 by March 14th. 


Office of African American Affairs "Blueprint for Change" Summit  will be held on April 14th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Purchase College in Purchase.  The Westchester County African American Advisory Board and the Westchester County Office of African American Affairs is presenting the Summit.  Keynote speaker will be television host Gil Noble, a well known television reporter and journalist. He is also known for his work as the host of WABC TV’s weekly public affairs series, “Like it Is.”  The Summit will also include workshops and interactive discussions on addressing disparities in health, education, housing and economic development.  For more information, contact the Office of African American Affairs (914) 995-2925.

Learn To Make Music with Steel Drums.  St. Paul's Steel Drum Band is sponsoring a Steel Drum Clinic on Saturday, April 25, 2009, 1:00pm - 5pm. Each student will have his/her own steel drum to play. A Brand New Musical! The Taylor Thomas Traveling Troupe is pleased to present a new musical, The Dance Teacher, co-written by John Taylor Thomas and Sarah Davis. The Dance Teacher is a charming love story about a widower who falls in love with his ballroom dance instructor. But the couple must navigate conflicts that arise when members of the dance teacher's family arrive on the scene. Lighthearted and fun, this original musical has beautiful music and dancing, but it also illustrates the patience and understanding that is needed to create successful relationships with those we love. John Taylor Thomas also wrote the musicals, Mail Order Maggie, Central Park, and The Gift of the Magi. His latest musical, The Dance Teacher, had its world premiere at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Yonkers. It was a huge hit. The church was packed and the response was an overwhelming Wow! This fundraising performance is on Saturday, April 25, 2009, 7:30pm, at St. Paul's On-The-Hill Episcopal Church, 40 Ganung Drive (off Rt. 133 east of Rt. 9A), Ossining.
