Maryknoll Speakers Series Poverty and Prayer: A Lenten Reflection, Award Winning Author and Film Maker to Present Poverty and Prayer:  A Lenten Reflection at Maryknoll Gerry Straub, a successful television producer for 30 years, left a life of privilege to explore how film transforms people’s hearts.  During his presentation, Poverty and Prayer: A Lenten Reflection, which will take place on Sunday, March 8th at 2:00 p.m., he fleshes out the call to care for “the least” in our society.  Using clips from his many films, he recounts his riches to rags conversion story, from an atheistic Hollywood producer to a documentary filmmaker, who uses his talents to put the power of film at the service of the poor around the world.  In a world sometimes weary of stories about the plight of the poor and oppressed, Straub presents the problem of poverty through the light of spirituality and faith, helping viewers discover the humanity and dignity of people who are considered throwaways: the homeless and forgotten, the poor migrant, the child in the slum.  Gerry Straub is a popular speaker at parishes, high schools and universities around the country. His films include When Did I see you Hungry?, narrated by Martin Sheen, and his books include The Sun and Moon Over Assisi, and Thoughts of a Blind Beggar.  Maryknoll’s interactive Museum of Living Mission will be open before and after the presentation.  All are welcome. Admission is free.  RSVP to Betsey Guest by March 2.,  914-941-7636 ext. 2219.  Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Center, 55 Ryder Road, Ossining.  For directions call 941-7636 ext. 2294.  Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers –formally known as the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America—was founded in 1911 with the support of the Bishops of the United States to be the chief mission outreach of the American Church.  We are currently serving the Church –especially among the poor-- in 27 countries worldwide.  For more information consult the World Wide Web at  or call 1-877-MARYKNOLL.
