The exhibit has been curated by Miguel Hernandez, former Mayor of Ossining and a military historian and genealogist. In many cultures, it is customary to honor one's ancestors. In the United States, while we don't have such customs that are found elsewhere in the world, Americans do have strong and positive feelings for their ancestral roots and this exhibit affirms those familial bonds are not forgotten. In this quiet way, many American families open a door to share their past with the community as they celebrate, remember and honor their ancestors.

St. Augustine Golden Eagles to Host Free Workshop on VA Aid & Attendance Benefit  Who can qualify to receive $12,000 to $22,000 per year tax-free?  According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, about a quarter of the nation's population – approximately 70 million people – are potentially eligible for VA benefits and services because they are veterans, family members or survivors of veterans.  The VA Aid and Attendance benefit, one of the many benefits available through the VA, offers eligible veterans or their surviving spouses a significant monthly pension, ranging from $998 to $1,842 per month tax-free.  To be eligible, veterans must have served 90 consecutive days or more with at least one day during a wartime period (World War II, Korea, etc) and meet a few medical and financial eligibility criteria.  As part of our commitment to educate the local community we are hosting a workshop about the availability of Aid & Attendance benefits.  During the workshop, we will be reviewing the eligibility criteria and show how thousands of families, EVEN IN CASES OF HIGHER NET WORTH, have become eligible for this benefit helping to offset the cost of the care being provided.  The Golden Eagles of St Augustine Church is hosting this educational workshop about VA benefits on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 9:30AM.  The event will take place at 381 North Highland Avenue, Parish Hall-Senior Center, Ossining, NY.  The workshop is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.  Please call 914-923-2268 ext. 1 to register and if you know someone else, who could benefit from this information, please bring him or her along.  For more information contact Celeste Patton, Golden Eagle Senior Center Coordinator at sagoldeneables@yahoo.com.
