An Open Letter to the Village of Ossining
Dear Ossining Residents:
As of Friday, May 19, 2006 I am stepping down as your Mayor. I do this with a heavy heart because of my great love for the Village of Ossining. However, personal and family reasons make this the best decision for me at this time.
I am very proud of the work I have accomplished as a member of the Board of Trustees since 1998 and in the year and a half that I have had the privilege as serving as your Mayor. I feel confident that the Board of Trustees, under the leadership of my great friend and long time colleague Miguel Hernandez, will continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of all the people of this great Village.
Ossining is in a unique position right now to capitalize on new momentum and renewed interest in the Village. Plans and project that have long been dormant are finally coming to life again. What has always been Ossining’s “potential” is fast becoming Ossining’s reality. There is a new vitality to our downtown as new businesses move in and long empty buildings and lots are renovated, current projects are bringing new housing of every type – high-end, middle class, workforce and affordable -- to our neighborhoods and we are achieving new amenities like the indoor/outdoor pool and the River Walk trail.
Although I leave my job as your Mayor with a great deal of personal sadness, I know that Ossining has a bright future ahead. I wish you all, and the Village that we all love, my personal best. And even though I will not be with you in person, my heart, my thoughts, and my good wishes will be with the Village of Ossining forever.
