Ossining’s Water Remains Safe to Drink and Use

(Ossining, NY, January 31, 2011) You may have heard that Westchester County has issued a boil alert notice to many of Ossining’s surrounding communities.  Please be aware that Ossining’s Water is Fine and Does Not Need to Be Boiled.   The reason for the boil alert is due to high turbidity (turbidity is a measurement of the cloudiness of water) in the raw water source.  We feed off of the Croton Aqueduct and the Indian Brook Reservoir and do not have this issue.

Because Ossining has a Water Filtration and Treatment Plant, even in the event that Ossining did have high turbidity in our water source, it would not be an issue as the water would be treated for the turbidity, making it acceptable for distribution and safe to drink.
