Ossining Fireworks Display will be held on Friday, July 2nd at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park.   Music begins 7pm, Fireworks approx 9:15pm Join us for a great show and enjoy entertainment before hand with a concert at Louis Engel Waterfront Park starting at 7:00pm.  This is a wonderful event and we hope you can be with us for an evening of fun.  A great way to kick off the holiday weekend. Vehicle Access on Westerly Road and Depot Plaza will be restricted.  At the conclusion of the event, no vehicles will be permitted to leave until pedestrians have safely left the viewing area.  On July 2nd, only metered parking spaces will be available in the west parking lot.  Alternate Commuter Parking Available on Central Avenue 2 hr. Parking Restriction Suspended.



The Mike Risko Music School is still accepting registration for their Rock Band Camps!  These one week workshops give young musicians at any level the opportunity to play in a band. While writing their own music, students get to incorporate team building and other valuable music skills into an incredible week long experience. The end of the week culminates with a rock concert where students perform their original work for friends and family. Summer Tech @ The Institute for End User Computing If you reside in Ossining, or a nearby community, The Institute for End User Computing, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based here in Ossining, would like to know if you would be interested in participating in a Summer Tech educational program. They are considering offering an Introduction to Computer Science & Programming for middle school and high school students and a survey of Comparative Programming Languages with a seminar format for students at the university level. -Saturday, July 10, 10:00 am: Annual Butterfly Count Adults. An annual rite of summer, the North American Butterfly Count is a way for all butterfly enthusiasts to partake in a citizen scientist monitoring effort.

-Sunday, July 11, 11:00 am – 12:00 noon:  Story Sundays – The Sunset Switch Children. Listen as we read a nature friendly story and make a craft, play a game or visit with one of Teatown’s animal ambassadors.  For children 4 – 7 years old, accompanied by an adult.

-Saturday July 17, time TBA:  Canoe The Croton

Adults. Enjoy paddling on one of the secret gems of Westchester from tidal flats through rocky cliffs, with sightings of herons, osprey and even bald eagles. All participants must be swimmers, be prepared to get wet, demonstrate canoeing experience and drive to the put-in site. Members $10, Non-Members $20 per person. 

-Sunday, July 18, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm:  Dragonfly Dance

ALL WELCOME. Dragonflies dart, hover and dive in pursuit of food and mates. Come along as a Teatown naturalist catches and releases a few of these winged wonders.

For Information or to register for a program, call (914) 762-2912 ext 110, Tuesday – Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Registration is required for all programs.  All programs take place in the Nature Center at Teatown Lake Reservation (1600 Spring Valley Road, Ossining NY 10562) unless otherwise noted and are free for members and $5 for nonmembers (plus materials fee, if applicable) unless otherwise noted.  When applicable, all programs must be paid for at the time of booking.  We accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, or you can pay in person with cash or check.  No refund will be granted less than two weeks prior to the program date.  People withdrawing prior to this deadline will receive a 75% refund (less 25% administrative costs.)



The Ossining Farmers Market is open at Market Square! This year, Community Markets is happy to welcome additional vendors to the market, which runs every Saturday from 8:30am to 1pm until December 18th on the corner of Main and Spring Street!  In addition to last season's fresh local, certified organic produce, artisinal organic breads, fish, meat, eggs, cheese, herbs, baked goods and specialty foods this year's market will feature handmade chutney, simmer sauces and other Indian delicacies from Calcutta Kitchens of Norwalk, CT., hard and soft goat cheeses, milk and yogurt from Coach Farm of Pine Plains, NY and mushrooms, orchids and vegetables from Hodgson Farm of Walden, NY.  Community Markets will also be hosting events like: cooking demos, tastings, a corn roast and live music throughout the season. Dances of Universal Peace, Thursday, July 8, 2010, 7 PM in the Campwoods Auditorium, Campwoods Grounds, Ossining, Dance Leader:  Dan Gallagher Join in an evening of Dances of Universal Peace.  The Dances are simple multi-cultural circle dances which celebrate peace, unity, and compassion for all beings.  Participation, rather than presentation, is the focus.  Dance lyrics are derived from phrases which have been used for centuries throughout the world in various spiritual traditions, as affirmations of unity.  The Dances involve direct experience rather than passive listening. Star of Bethlehem Church, Ossining, Debutante Cotillion to be held on July 9, 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel, Tarrytown, 8 pm.  Tickets available - Adults $75.00 and Children $30.00 10 years old and under.  The young ladies will be presented to society, and will swirl the night away in beautiful white dresses.  Please come and enjoy the evening and receive sit down dinner, entertainment, and a journal. Free 2 Week Music Summer Camp at St. Paul's On-the-Hill. Come to this beautiful former farm for free instruction for beginners in Drumming, Guitar, Trumpet, Voice, Steel drums and Sound reinforcement. The Mike Risko Music School will be finally cutting the ribbon and celebrating the grand opening of our their space at 144 Croton Ave on Thurs July 22 from 5-8pm. Join them as they celebrate winning a Best of Westchester award from Westchester Magazine and Mayor of Ossining William Hanauer and Bob Galassi, former owner of Ossining Music cut the ribbon! Taconic Opera to Host Second Annual Summer Sing  Taconic Opera will be hosting its second annual Summer Sing of Opera Choruses on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, 216 Central Ave (one block from the County Center), White Plains.  Don’t miss what will be the most entertaining choral event of the summer season.  Come and sing some of the most popular opera choruses…or just come to listen, learn and enjoy.  The conductor of the event will be Dan Montez, the Artistic Director of the Taconic Opera, who will also share some humorous insights into the world of opera.  The sing will include choruses by the opera greats: Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, Rossini and more.  Admission is $10 and includes refreshments and the use of scores.  For further information, call 914-944-8109 or visit



The Northern Westchester Model Railroad Club has its next monthly meeting Thursday, September 16, in the community room of the Apple Bank in the Rose Hill Shopping Center in Thornwood. The meeting will begin by 8:00PM and generally breaks up around 10PM. Ossining Community Markets Seeking Applicants for Two Positions:
-Marketing Assistant/Fill-In Site Manager

Conduct surveys at the farmers markets, post flyers, promote the markets at street fairs, assist with other marketing related efforts. Approximately 2 days per week for 3 to 7 hours a day from June to December. Fill in as a Site Manager as needed. On-call with as much notice as possible but at times with very short notice. On average Site Manager shifts are 8 hours a day. One weekend per month during the season can be blocked out as “not available” to accommodate regularly scheduled time off. The position is dual – it includes marketing assistant duties in addition to being available as an on-call, fill-in site manager. Seasonal, part-time position; days and hours vary. Season runs from May 29 to December 19. We are seeking someone with an outgoing personality and outstanding organizational skills. Vehicle required. $15/hour.

Oversee and supervise daily operations of an outdoor farmers market in Ossining. Customer relations; promote e-mail marketing list, special events and new products; enforce policies and procedures. Provide direction and diffuse conflict (if any) in a peaceful manner. Set up manager’s tent, information center, signage and barricades. Complete weekly written report on daily market activity; ability to communicate via e-mail in a timely manner. Requirements include regular internet access and lifting of up to approximately 40 pounds. Outgoing personality and knowledge of local food movement and/or interest in cooking with fresh, local ingredients helpful. Market operates every Saturday through Dec 18. This is a part time seasonal position. $15/hour.
