St. Ann
's School will host a St. Patrick's Dinner on Saturday March 14, 2009 from 6 to 10 pm in the school.  Dinner cost is $25 for adults, $10 for children under 12.  Dinner includes an open bar and hot and cold hors d'oeuvres, Traditional corned beef and cabbage with potatoes, carrots and soda bread, dessert and coffee.  Music and dancing with DJ Johnny G.  50/50 raffle and more.  For more information contact St. Ann's School at  941-0312.


Two Seats are Available on The Ossining Board of Education.  The Ossining Board of Education will hold its Annual Election and Budget Vote on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.  This year two seats become available with the terms of Dana Levenberg and Irwin J. Kavy ending on June 30, 2009.  Petition packets for Board of Education candidates will be available on Friday, March 13, 2009.  Interested candidates may obtain a petition packet from the District Clerk at the Roosevelt Education Center, 190 Croton Avenue, Ossining.  Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The last day for filing petitions is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009.  For further information please contact Vanessa Muro, District Clerk 941-7700, ext. 317. 


The Ossining Community Tennis Association cordially invites you & a guest to attend "LIGHT UP OSSINING TENNIS" Join us on Friday, March 27th at 7 p.m. for
Fine Wine Tasting and Hors D' Oeuvres as we celebrate our kick-off event to obtain lighting for Nelson Park Courts and bring Night Tennis to Ossining.  Cost: $40 per person payable to Ossining CTA, checks should be mailed to: Jerry Ross, 30 State Street, Ossining. Lights for the courts will greatly increase evening activity at the park and benefit the entire community, from students to seniors.    


Hydrant Flushing Schedule The Village of Ossining Water Department will begin flushing fire hydrants throughout the Village on Sunday evening, March 29, 2009.  Flushing of hydrants will be performed between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in order to minimize disruptions to our residents and will take approximately four weeks to complete.  As the flushing of hydrants takes place closer to your home, you may notice some discoloration in your water first thing in the morning.  Do not be alarmed.  Just run your water for a short period of time and it should clear up.  If the discoloration persists, please notify the Water Department at 941-6111.  The Water Department regrets any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, this operation is necessary for us to ensure the continued cleanliness of the water distribution system.  We will do everything possible to minimize any problems.

Ossining MATTERS presents Music From An American Icon: Rosanne Cash featuring John Leventhal.  Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash will headline a concert to benefit Ossining MATTERS, our community's education foundation.  Cash's husband, Grammy-winning producer-songwriter John Leventhal, a Westchester native, will appear with her. Shoppers used to getting their local food fixes at the Ossining Farmers Market can now support their farmers all winter long at the Briarcliff Indoor Farmers Market held two Saturdays a month from 8:30am-2pm in the Briarcliff Congregational Church on the corner of Elm Street and South State Road.  The Briarcliff Market boasts many of the farm products enjoyed all summer including, pasture raised meat and poultry, pickles, produce, specialty foods, artisanal cheeses, cider, apples, pears, cider donuts, crusty bread and baked goods.  The remaining market dates are: 3/21, 4/4, 4/18, 5/2, 5/16.

Teatown Event - Greening” Your Backyard You can care for your lawn and garden using ecologically responsible methods this year. Teatown offers non-credit courses in collaboration with Westchester Community College’s Adult Extension Program. This program is open to anyone over 16 years of age. Ossining Public Library Events…

-It's That Time Again!  Need Help With Your Taxes?  Tax Aide will be available at the library on Thursdays thru April 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. in the theater.  Tax Aide volunteers have been IRS trained and certified.  Bring last year's tax forms, social security statements, bank statements, and any other pertinent information (i.e. contributions).  For more information please contact:  Jane Clark at 914-941-2416 ext. 326, or the Reference Dept. at ext. 320. 

-Dan DeLuca, author of the newly published "The Old Leather Man: Historical Accounts of a Connecticut and New York Legend" will be the featured speaker at the library on Wednesday, March 18th at 7:30 p.m.  The leather man was a mysterious, eccentric figure who appeared first in 1856 wandering country roads and sleeping in huts and caves. He died in 1889 remaining a mystery, his identity still unknown.  We do know however that he is buried in Sparta Cemetery, Ossining.  DeLuca is a genealogist, historian and retired teacher who after decades of research has compiled a comprehensive account of the Leather Man and his travels.  The program will be held in the theater and is co-sponsored with the Ossining Historical Society Museum.  The book has been published by Wesleyan University Press and will be available that evening.

Sleepy Hollow Sprint Triathlon Registration Online Begins on March 2, 2009 at  The triathlon will take place on June 28th at 8:30 a.m. at Kingsland Point Park and consists of ½ mile swim, 10 mile bike and 3 mile run through Sleepy Hollow and scenic Hudson River.  Open to individual and team participation.  For more information email Benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

IT'S TIME TO GET OUT People are eagerly awaiting Comedy Night IV to be held Saturday evening March 21, 2009.  The overall feeling is; time to get out, get great value for your money and more importantly time to laugh. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Croton Harmon High School PTSA and Croton Teen Theatre.  The event takes place at Holy Name of Mary Church hall beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Dinner, donated by Good To Go Gourmet, unlimited wine and beer, coffee, tea, desserts and three New York City comedians all for $50.  Music will be provided by Rob & Lisa Morsberger, Mark Minkler and John Doty. On Monday, March 23rd a program on Collaborative Practice: a different approach to divorce will be presented in the Conference Room at the Ossining Public Library beginning at 7:30 p.m. This free program will be conducted by attorneys at law Lauren Morrissey and Jessica Bacal and psychologist Peggy Herzog.  Collaborative Practice is a type of dispute resolution which enables couples to divorce without resorting to adversarial tactics and to minimize the negative effects of divorce on families.  The goal of Collaborative Practice is to reach an agreement before going to court, making the breakup as painless as possible.

"Does faith still matter?"  Teens pose the question to a panel of leaders from six different faiths, including Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Humanist, Jewish and Christian on Thursday, March 26th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Ossining Public Library Theater on the lower level. This event is sponsored by the Interfaith Youth Corp and will be co-moderated by Talia Fox and Rev. Stephen Holton.  Young people will be discussing the relevance of religion to issues of war, drugs, sex, poverty, violence, racism, the environment and the influence of pop music and culture today. Youth and interested adults are encouraged to have questions ready for this unique opportunity.  This event is free and open to the public and refreshments (kosher and nonkosher) will be served.  Interested adults are also welcome. OPL Event…Paintings and drawings spanning 75 years by the late WPA Artist Jerome Henry Roth will be on exhibit at the Ossining Public Library from April 1-25. Opening reception will be Saturday, April 4 from 2-4 p.m. A graduate of Pratt Institute, Roth became the youngest member of the poster division of the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression.  He went on to design posters for the U.S. Tourist Bureau, Orson Welles Theatre, and the U.S. Dept. of Health and later for Warner Brothers producing material for movies. During W.W. II Roth volunteered with the U.S. Army Air Corps flying 30 missions over Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.  After the War he returned to drawing and painting.  His paintings have been shown over the years at the Garrison Art Center, Cortlandt Center for the Arts, Overseas Press Club, Nardin Fine Art in Cross River, at the Susan Teller Gallery in New York, at Silvermine Guild in Ct. and elsewhere in the East.

John Paul Rodrigues Scholarship Fundraiser Dinner and Show at the Westchester Broadway Theatre on April 8th, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  The Scholarship is in memory of John-Paul Rodrigues, a 1998 graduate of Ossining High School and Village of Ossining sanitation worker who died on the job on July 20, 2005.  Tickets are $75.00 per person.  For reservations, or if you have any questions contact Joe Rodrigues at 941-3277 by March 14th.
